Hello Roland and Barb: Here's another suggestion. Go to the Chowhound San Francisco message site:
http://www.chowhound.com/california/boards/sanfrancisco/sanfrancisco.html (sorry I don't know how to make the link work). You can post your question there but also can scroll through lots of discussion about SF eats ranging from the hole in the wall to the most upscale.
Also if you are planning to do wine touring in Napa check out the Wine Spectator site: http://www.winespectator.com/Wine/Travel/0,1178,,00.html
They give good overviews and, while not focussing on budget travel, can be a good place to start.
