Here's a few suggestions for Napa: Mustard's, La Toque, Terra, Pinot Blanc, Bistro Jeanty. All recommended by friends. The recommendations are about a year or so old, so you might want to check them out from more current sources.
In San Francisco - Slanted Door for Vietnamese, Lemongrass Thai, Chapeau, Acqua or head over to Berkeley and go to Chez Panisse
