Nick Smith and the Georgia Straight - Don't forget the Vancouver food blogs
Posted by Roland Tanglao on 3/11/05; 10:53:31 PM
    From the Features dept.

Hey Nick Smith and the Georgia Straight, don't forget the Vancouver food blogs. Nick's otherwise excellent article, Cooking up a batch of food blogs to fatten up your online reading fails to mention a single Vancouver food blog.

It's not really that hard to find Vancouver food blogs, just ask me (604 729 7924 or email roland AT bryght.com)! Nick, here are some to get you started:

Finally, I don't know about you but Nick's contention that food and computers don't mix and therefore that "food blogs" is an oxymoron is pretty funny but nowhere close to reality. When I go to a new town, I don't turn to the impossible to follow eGullet or ChowHound, I look for a blogger. Bloggers (like they do in other fields) contextualize the scene (in this case the food scene) in their town in down to earth terms. And unlike big sites like epicurious (don't get me wrong it's an informative site, but it has no soul!) there is no corporate agenda; just somebody who loves food and wants to share their love.

Kathmandu cafe takes over former Green Grape next to Pondok Indonesia

    Kathmandu Cafe on Commercial

It looks like Kathmandu Cafe's (2779 Commercial Drive, 604 879-9909 opening date is in April. Great to see another restaurant opening after the Green Grape closed down. And I am intrigued by the thought of Nepali food!
