My friend Glo and I visited the Food Service Expo at BC Place
today. What a huge range of everything and anything you need to
operate in the food or hospitality industry. From food suppliers
and distributers to kitchen equipment to wineries to health and safety
regulators. And coffee...lots of coffee.
My favourite exhibitors were, of course, the food distributers and we
enjoyed samples such as artisan cheeses, local and imported seafood,
gelato, condiments, chocolates, desserts and beverages. It was
great to see BC products showcased at the BC Field Fresh and BC Wine
pavillions.
We also ran into local food celebrities such as Don Genova (on the
beat) and Vikram Vij. Robert Clark of C was there supporting the
Vancouver Aquarium's Ocean Wise initiative. The program
encourages restaurants to serve sustainable seafood dishes to help
protect seafood stocks as well as the environment.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to watch any of the Iron Chef and Junior Chef competitions and the barista championship.
If you're remotely interested in the food service industry, you can still check out the expo tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
