Where to find Vancouver seasonal foods would make a great topic for a blog
Posted by Roland Tanglao on 11/3/04; 10:29:44 AM
    From the Features dept.

In response to Porco's recent request, Barb pointed to The Fraser Valley Direct Marketing Association's produce availablity chart and Theresa pointed (thanks!) to Slow Food Vancouver's in SEASON now list.

These lists are great and all and may satisfy Porco, but I want more:

    1) links to where I can buy this stuff in Vancouver
    2) some supporting material e.g. links to recipes and how to buy and use this stuff 3) make this a full fledged category with an RSS feed so I can subscribe to it and get updates as it changes

All of the above is not rocket science and can be done easily by non technical people using a web browser if you use a modern system like Bryght (disclaimer, I am a founder of Bryght), Drupal, Blogware or MovableType.

Basically what I want is a blog about seasonal Vancouver foods, surprise, surprise! It would be cool if some farmers and chefs got together to write one. Call me at 604 729 7924 anytime if you are interested in starting such a thing! It would be a fun thing to do and not cost much.

Ideal British type pub for after dinner conversation with a big group
Posted by Roland Tanglao on 11/3/04; 10:18:09 AM
    From the Beer dept.

For future events like our Drupal and Civic Space dinner, I am looking for a quiet-ish British style pub where we can have conversations uninterrupted by loud music. If you know of a good place, please leave a comment.

For me the ideal place would:

    • take large groups (10-24)
    • have a large selection of draft beers, I would prefer British, German, Belgian, BC micro brew or Czech. I love Steamworks and the Yaletown Brewing Company but much as I love their beers and they are in fact my default places for events of this nature, I would prefer to find other places that serve other people's beers.
    • allow and enable conversation (no loud music! background ambient electronic music would be cool)
    • have decent food
