NMC 2004 - Best Restaurants close to UBC
Posted by Roland Tanglao on 6/16/04; 10:21:39 PM
    From the Restaurants dept.

Welcome to Vancouver, New Media Consortium Summer Conference 2004 (NMC 2004) delegates which takes place from 16-19 June 2004 at UBC. And thanks to the fine folks at the NMC conference for linking to VanEats!

Here's a list of restaurants recommended to NMC 2004 delegates. This list is not exhaustive (we spend most our eating time in Gastown, Kitsilano and Downtown), not in any particular order and focuses only on restaurants near UBC. For downtown, Chinatown and Gastown, check out our Restaurant Recommendations for National Canadian Association of Journalist Conference Attendees. More recommendations at http://www.vaneats.com/reviews/restaurants/.

    1. Cafe Katzenjammer - good, inexpensive German food and beer!
    2. Pane e Formaggio - Not strictly a restaurant, but they serve great sandwiches and have great coffee. A wonderful place for chilling out, networking and a light meal.
    3. Provence Mediterranean Grill - excellent anti pasti and French inspired food! Not cheap but not too expensive.
    4. Wabi Sabi - We've never eaten there but our friends Stewart and Caterina love it! Japanese tapas and sushi.
    5. Burgoo - Again we've never eaten there but our friends Lisa and Susan recommend it. Comfort foods like soup and stew.

    First Visit: Dan on Broadway
Posted by Roland Tanglao on 6/16/04; 12:03:14 AM
    From the Restaurants dept.

We have been meaning for months to check out Dan (2511 West Broadway, 604-730-0306.) on Broadway. We finally tried it out Tuesday night.

The ambiance is low key and soothing with plenty of room for our baby stroller too.

More later (including photos) but suffice to say that the food is delicious and inexpensive. The fresh Stella Bay oysters and the numerous squid dishes that we tried (most of which were specials) were all excellent.
