    Jamie's coming to Vancouver!
Posted by Barb Wong on 10/16/03; 8:02:14 PM
    From the Features dept.

On October 22, Jamie Oliver is coming to Chapters for a book signing session for his latest book, Jamie's Kitchen. I will be there with the other Naked Chef fans vying for an autographed copy of his book and a chat!

On a lark, we sent him an e-mail to invite him over for a homecooked meal. He's probably got a full itinerary but why not give it a shot!

Then we thought, "What would we cook for him?!"

Here are some of our ideas (not fancy-just hearty and flavourful):
Asian inspired: a nice slow simmered soup like wintermelon and dried scallop, 'rice cakes' cooked with pork, mushrooms and greens, garlic sauteed gai lan or mustard greens, coconut or waterchestnut pudding and fruit.
Western: white bean stew with lovely cured meats from Oyama Sausage, a salad of organic greens with pears and gorgonzola, some local artisanal bread, cheeses from Les Amis du Fromage, torta di mele.

We would be entirely thrilled and honoured if Jamie came to dine with us! We're hoping that he will!

The UBC Apple Festival is this Saturday and Sunday 18-19 October from 11a.m.-4p.m. Like last year, the cost is $2 for unlimited apple tasting and other treats and there will be lots of rare and exotic apples for sale as well as games and face painting for  kids.  See you there!
