    First Visit: Cru
Posted by Roland Tanglao on 9/23/03; 9:15:48 PM
    From the Restaurants dept.

Barb and I enjoyed a fabulous prix fixé ($32 each for an appetizer, main and dessert) meal at Cru (1459 West Broadway, 604 677-4111) tonight.  Just one of those meals that you come away feeling happy, satisfied, and full but not too full.

Everything was fine: the room is not quiety but not uncomfortably loud, hip but not overly so, warm, cozy, small but not claustrophobic.

Of course the main event is the food and it was fine.  Barb loved her five spice crusted duck breast served atop butternut squash with seared foie gras.  Perfectly succulent and the sweetness of the squash, the glaze and the duck were an excellent combination.

And my beef tenderloin combined with cabernet oyster mushrooms and a blue cheese soufflé was a great medley of flavours.

We both really enjoyed the dessert: Sticky Orange Almond Icewine Cake with crème fraiche.  Succulent, simple and not overpowering.

Definitely one of the best meals we've had this year.  We will be back for a mini-review!
