Taste of the City - good, delicious fun!
Posted by Roland Tanglao on 9/20/03; 1:58:23 PM
    From the Features dept.

Barb and I had a great time at Taste of the City this afternoon.  A perfect fall day for trying out some delicious food from 25 restaurants.  It's not to late!  They are open until 10p.m. so you have plenty of time left to check it out.  And there's food for the whole family and all tastes and budgets.

Barb's favourite was the salmon candy with wild rice and pickled Okanagan tree fruit salad ($3) from C.  Excellent clean flavours and texture contrasts.

My favourite was the Yucatan grilled flank steak on a corn tortilla with a pineapple salsa from Bin 941/942.  What a bargain at $2! Tender beef and a great combination of flavours.

We also liked the wild boar hot dog from Hot Dog Jonny's (part of combo #1 which was $3).  Great flavour and texture especially when combined with the cranberry mustard or any of the multitude of house made condiments that Jonny had on offer.

    Tandoor-Style Flatbreads
Posted by Barb Wong on 9/20/03; 9:25:25 AM
    From the Features dept.

After being lucky enough to have Indian food 3 times this past week, I was happy to find this article on making tandoor-style flatbread. Written by Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duguid, two of our favourite food authors, the article gives an in depth overview on technique and methods to successfully make homemade naan.

I think naan will be one of this week's cooking projects. I'll have to make some butter chicken and aloo gobi to eat along with it!
