| First Visit: Harvest Village on Broadway |
Posted by Roland Tanglao on 9/6/03; 11:54:53 PM
From the Restaurants dept.
Harvest Village (1443 West Broadway,
604 742-1668) is my in-laws current favourite non-Cantonese
Chinese restaurant. The friendly and cheerful proprietors are from
Beijing, the clientele is mostly Mandarin speaking and the food
veers authentically from normal Cantonese restaurant fare.
The four of us ate five dishes for about $50. Very
inexpensive! And inexpensive combo plates are available for
lunch. The food is not light and therefore not really the best
for summer but the room was packed on the weeknight we went despite the
summer heat!
My favourites were:
The lamb kebabs with cumin. Never seen whole cumin seeds used like this in Chinese cooking before:
The braised pork ribs with star anise were stunning (wonderful sweet
but not too sweet brown sauce) and were my absolute favourites of the
evening :
We'll be back for a full mini-review!
