This Year's Easter Treat from La Petite France
Posted by Roland Tanglao on 4/21/03; 11:18:04 PM
    From the Shopping dept.

For the past two Easters, we have treated ourselves one uniquely beautiful and delicious treat from La Petite France.

This year we tried this beautiful swan. Amazing! Sponge cake with orange and lots of other tasty goodness. A delectable work of art for about $25. Highly recommended!

    Mini-Review Mostly Martha
Posted by Roland Tanglao on 4/21/03; 12:01:08 AM
    From the Features dept.

Barb and I watched the German movie, Mostly Martha, Sunday night.

It's about a neurotic chef in Hamburg and her quest for happiness after the death of her sister forces her to raise her niece.

It's well done but not a great movie. There are some great food moments in the movie and you get a sense of how a kitchen works including staff meals and other details but the focus of the movie is not on food itself but on character development and plot.

Having said that if you like German movies (I love movies with subtitles but inexplicably :-) some people don't!) and movies involving food and you are looking for something that's not a typical Hollywood smash-em-up with a blaring disco soundtrack (of course I also love both Hollywood movies and cheesy disco soundtracks!) then this movie is enjoyable in its own right!
