More on the Loy Krathong Festival
Posted by Roland Tanglao on 10/30/01; 11:21:13 PM
    From the Features dept.

Here are more details that Ann sent to us about the Thai Loy Krathong festival on the 10th that we promised yesterday:
    • It is sponsored by the Friends of Thailand Society, whose byline is "a non-profit educational society dedicated to helping Canadians understand and apreciate Thai culture and society."
    • It features a concert by the Chiang Mai musical troupe, Lai Muang, who are renowned for reviving authentic Lan Na music.
    • There will be a Thai welcome dance.
    • There will be demonstrations of Thai food preparation and making Krathongs.
    • Nag Noppamas, queen of the Festival will be selected so wear your best Thai costume and maybe you will win.
    • A Slide show will be presented.
    • Thai handicrafts will be on sale, proceeds to AIDS victims in Thailand
    • You can try your hand at Thai folk dancing!

      Here are the details again:
      DATE: Saturday, November 10, 2001
      TIME: 6:00 p.m.
PLACE: Asian Centre, University of British Columbia
ADMISSION: Limited space: reservations recommended!, $25 per adult, $20 for full-time students, $12 children 6-12 which includes a Thai meal from leading Thai restaurants such as Montri, Salathai and many more. Cash bar.

Finally please understand that Barb and I have no commercial interest in this or any connection with the organizers of this festival, just a love and interest in Thai food!

      See you there!
